Shed Sessions: Jamie Dodds

So, what led you to become a web developer?

After Uni, I fell into the finance trap and decided I wanted a career change. Web development was something I could learn at home, with plenty of online guides to create a career path. I enjoyed it straight away, I could problem-solve and create in a digital format.

How would you describe your role to someone outside the industry?

I’d spare them from any technical coding talk and just say I try to make good-looking websites!

If you could swap jobs with one person in the team for a day, who would you pick?

It would be fun to be in one of the creatives’ shoes, creating a brand identity and bringing a client brief to life.

How do you unwind?

My daughters don’t leave me much time for hobbies and unwinding at the moment, but I'm looking to restart some old interests like pottery, drawing, and playing golf eventually.

Now, everyone loves a bit of music… if you had to choose 3 headliners for a concert, who would they be?

It would be a random concert, but I’d go for some performers I haven’t seen live yet and would love to one day: Ben Howard, Fontaines DC, and Tool.

What do you value most about Potting Shed?

That’s a hard question as there’s so much at Potting Shed I do value, but it would probably be seeing all of the amazing work that’s produced every day by the whole team, it’s always inspiring.

Tell us about something new you’ve learnt recently…

Paprika is made from dried, crushed peppers! I’d never really thought about what paprika was made of before. I use it a fair bit and was surprised I’d never queried the ingredients… some things just fly under the radar.

And, to finish up this Shed Session, let’s hear about a project you’re most proud of.

The new Potting Shed website, which will be released very soon. We pushed Wix Studio to its limits creatively and think it looks really good. We’re looking forward to getting it out there for everyone else to see.

Testimonials

"Potting Shed took the time to understand the product and our purpose and created a clean, fun and fresh look which our clients comment on regularly. They then took the brand and product to the next level for us by creating our product video and website, and the storyboard and visual process that the team created really brought it to life."

"We worked alongside Potting Shed to create an identity that embodies who we are, and why we do what we do. These projects have contributed to a more connected team who believe in our organisation at a deep level. When your people believe in what you do and take ownership over their culture and workplace, growth is the natural outcome."
